The Centre for Biblical Studies and Jewish-Christian Relations (Cerjuc-Sion) continues to promote a critical, committed and communal biblical study of the Scriptures, and especially a deeper understanding of the Jewish tradition and its richness for the Christian tradition, as it begins its 2021 academic year.

THE KING’S JUSTICE
Wednesdays, February 2nd to 23rd, 6:30-8:30 pm
Facilitator: David Castillo

The course introduces the reading of the books of Samuel I and II based on the narrative exegesis, generating a dialogue among the literary, historical and theological dimensions of the story.

 

LEARNING TO READ BIBLICAL HEBREW
Mondays, from February 15th to June 28th, 9-11 am
Facilitator: Luis Ángel Bolaños

The course provides the necessary knowledge to read the Hebrew Bible in its original language, opening the doors to the wonderful world of Jewish Tradition.

 

MIDRASH: AN ACTIVITY, A LITERATURE, A SPIRIT
Mondays, from February 15th to April 12th, 2-4 pm
Facilitator: Luis Ángel Bolaños

This course highlights the importance and the love for the sacred text in the Jewish tradition, seeking in many ways a deeper understanding of its Holy Scriptures.

 

LECTIO DIVINA: PRAYERFUL READING OF THE BIBLE
Mondays, from February 15th to April 12th, 6:30-8:30 pm
Facilitator: Luis Ángel Bolaños

The course offers the theory and practice of this ancient method of Bible reading in the Catholic tradition, while promoting biblical spirituality.

 

INTRODUCTION TO THE FIRST TESTAMENT II
Tuesdays, from March 2nd to June 29th, 9-11 am

The course explores the literary, historical and theological characteristics of the First Testament books, emphasising the Sapiential, Prophetic and Deuterocanonical literature.

 

INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK OF EXODUS
Tuesdays, from March 2nd to June 29th, 6:30-8:30 pm
Facilitator: Rocío Cano 

The course identifies in the book of Exodus the presence of literary genres, the historical, political and social context in which it was written as well as the interest of the sacred author, considering key words such as: slavery, servitude, service, path and liberation, among others of equal importance interwoven in this biblical text to allow for a different and liberating reading aimed at promoting liberation and life.

 

BOOK OF REVELATION
Wednesdays, from March 3rd to June 30th, 9-11 am
Facilitator: Giselle Zamora

This course will present an approach to the book from the perspective of the Christian community seeking to rebuild its hope. The Apocalypse conveys a spirituality of resistance and guides us to organising an alternative world as we explore the textual elements that lead to these objectives.

 

UNDERSTANDING THE CHRISTIAN FAITH: CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES
Wednesdays, from March 3rd to June 30th, 7-9 pm
Facilitator: Hanzel Zuñiga

The course proposes an exercise in dialogue between early Christianity and our current faith, inviting us to go back and immerse ourselves in our reality and “translate”, with a new language, the essential elements of the Gospel, i.e., its “original freshness”.

 

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET ISAIAH
Thursdays, from March 4th to July 1st, 9-11 am
Facilitator: David Castillo

The course will focus on the different chapters of the book of Isaiah, highlighting the different images of God in its three main sections, and evaluating its proposals for the establishment of liberating societies today.
