Year of Mother Christine

To celebrate the 140th Anniversary of her birth in 1865 and the 80th anniversary of the founding of "the Solitude" in 1926, the Sisters of the Contemplative Branch of Sion want to offer the whole Congregation a "Year of Mother Christine" from August 19, 2005 until November 26, 2006.

Where did we get the idea for such a year?

This idea came from the Sisters in Costa Rica - where the 2004 General chapter was held. Their memory of Mère Christine is still very much alive: she was on mission there from 1903 until 1919.

What is the significance of the dates that were chosen?

August 19 is the day Mère Christine returned to God. In 2006, November 26 will be the feast of Christ the King, The feast on which "the Solitude" began in 1926.

Why celebrate such a year?

  • To remember Mère Christine in the congregation;
  • To respond to a wish of the general chapter and of many sisters to have more communication between the apostolic sisters and the contemplative sisters;
  • For ourselves, to deepen her message.

How will we celebrate this year?

Each month, we will have the joy of sharing with you something from the life of Mère Christine and a short text that she wrote.
